Meet Mildred Mouse: One Little Mouse, Three Splendid Adventures

By George Harrison

A tiny doorway, a welcoming tearoom and a picnic worth getting to. Sometimes, the loveliest adventures begin with the smallest things.

I’m delighted to introduce The Adventures of Mildred Mouse, my illustrated collection of three stories about a little mouse with a curious mind and a kind heart.

Mildred’s world is full of cosy corners, countryside paths and unexpected discoveries. She enjoys familiar comforts, but there is always something beyond her doorway to tempt her whiskers outside.

In Mildred and the House of Little Doors, readers step into her world inside an old house, where small doorways invite exploration and everyday surroundings hold possibilities for adventure.

Then, in Mildred and the Willow Tree Tearoom, Mildred ventures beyond the garden wall. A journey towards a delightful tearoom brings new sights, new friends and the pleasure of discovering somewhere unfamiliar.

Her third outing takes a rather noisier turn.

In Mildred and the Great Motoring Mystery, the handsome Percival Puddleduck invites her for a drive in his splendid vintage motorcar. They have a surprise to deliver to the ducklings’ picnic, but their journey comes to an unexpected stop. Percival is worried. Mildred, however, thinks they might make rather good detectives.

First they look. Then they listen. Then they think.

It is a story about the satisfaction of solving a problem together, and finding that a troublesome moment can become a happy memory when a good friend is beside you.

A Little World to Share

What I love about Mildred is that she does not need to be the biggest or loudest character to make a difference. She notices things, asks questions and offers a helpful suggestion when someone needs one.

With gentle humour, warm illustrations and plenty of countryside charm, these stories invite children to slow down and explore alongside her. There are details to spot, discoveries to discuss and familiar characters to return to.

The collection is lovely for sharing aloud at bedtime, settling down together on a rainy afternoon, or enjoying one adventure at a time. There is even a Mildred Mouse cut-out activity, so young readers can take her on adventures of their own.

Come through the little door and meet Mildred. There is a whole world waiting on the other side.
